Social Responsibility
We shape a better world
A commitment to our environment and the communities in which we work has always been at the heart of the Arup ethos. It defines our approach to our work, our clients, our partners, and each other.
Arup also has a Sustainability Policy which ensures that all clients and staff are educated in the ways of environmental stewardship. In the US, more than 225 of our staff are designated LEED Accredited Professionals by the US Green Building Council, and 30 projects we have worked on have achieved LEED certification with an additional 40 projects registered for LEED certification.
We’re also passionate about social responsibility extending further than our offices. We want to make a difference to the world we live in. This is just one of the reasons people want to work for Arup.
In 2006, for Arup’s 60th anniversary, we didn’t throw a party – we launched the Arup Cause instead. Our goal was to enhance the capabilities of humanitarian and development organizations by providing technical assistance and fundraising. So far, we’ve been involved in 30 projects to deliver safe water and sanitation to more than 8,000 people in the developing world through a partnership with WaterAid.
The Arup Cause has also sponsored individuals in their personal charitable activities, and each American office regularly performs community service as a team building event.
In addition, we also have a policy of providing qualified staff with the opportunity to take partially-paid leave to provide engineering assistance after natural and man-made disasters. Arup also has the practice of providing grants to match employee’s donations to selected international aid agencies in the aftermath of large scale disasters around the world.
These are just some examples of what we mean when we say “we shape a better world”.
